The Power of Our Inner Dialogue

As humans, the way we speak to ourselves holds profound significance. It shapes our perspectives, influences our actions, and ultimately, impacts the quality of our lives. Yet, in today’s world, we often find ourselves falling into the trap of relying on designated “days” to remind us of important aspects of our existence.

Beyond Designated “Days”: Making Self-Care Constant

While events like International Women’s Day, World Mental Health Day, and Earth Day serve valuable purposes in raising awareness and highlighting critical issues, the underlying message they convey can be problematic. The implication is that we need specific days to remind us of these important facets of our lives, as if they are not already inherently woven into the fabric of our daily existence.

However, the truth is, these causes and values should not be confined to a single day, but rather, should be an integral part of our daily lives. Why should we need a designated “Women’s Day” to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women, when we should be doing so every single day? Why do we require a “World Mental Health Day” to prioritize our well-being, when it should be a constant consideration in our lives? These designated “days” can create the false impression that we only need to focus on these important issues once a year, when in reality, they should be a consistent and integral part of our daily existence.

This emphasis on mental health and the importance of how we speak to ourselves is precisely what I want to dive deeper into in this blog post, drawing from my own personal experiences and journey.

My Personal Journey: From Struggle to Empowerment

If you’ve read any of my other blog posts, you’ll know that health, and more specifically mental health, is of great importance to me. This is likely due to my past and present experiences – when you’ve gone through your own struggles, you have no choice but to face them head-on and do something about it. The choice is simple: either you do something or you don’t. And I’ve always leaned towards the former.

I’m convinced that we’re here to learn profound lessons, and that doesn’t come for free. Sometimes, the experiences we go through may feel unfair or even cruel. But I have faith that there is a greater good to be found in it – the opportunity to become wiser, even if it’s challenging to see that when you’re in the midst of a dark place.

Examining My Inner Dialogue and Uncovering Subconscious Beliefs

So let me ask you the following direct question: How do you speak to yourself on a daily basis? Please, take a moment to really think about it.

Honestly, I’ll admit that even now, my inner dialogue is still far from positive. No wonder I developed anxiety, mental discomfort, and countless fears during my teens and 20s.

Through my research and experimentation with techniques like EFT tapping, Natural Linguistic Programming (NLP), Reiki, and Dr. Joe Dispenza’s meditations, I’ve come to realize that many of our beliefs and behaviors are shaped by experiences from our childhood.

an image depicting the process of "unpacking" or exploring one's subconscious beliefs, perhaps through visualization, meditation, or therapeutic techniques.

For instance, being brought up by a chronically ill family member can instill a deep fear of getting sick in a person. Another example is when your parents or caregivers criticize or put you down all the time when you are a kid – that can develop a deep sense of unworthiness within you. These subconscious programs can continue to run our lives unless we take the time to unpack them.

So let me ask you again, how do you speak to yourself? Because it matters!

Also, I’ve mentioned I found temporary “hacks” to calm down, which you can read about in my previous blog post. Bear in mind, those temporary “hacks” offered comfort, but I knew they weren’t lasting solutions to the root of my mental discomfort. They were powerful tools to support me, but the real work was uncovering and addressing the underlying issues.

Instilling Empowering Beliefs

In my own journey, I recently went through a guided hypnosis session where a new, empowering belief was installed in my subconscious mind. It was not a profound trance session, which meant I remained in control with my consciousness aware as I worked to install this strong, serving belief in my subconscious.

The expert who facilitated this process emphasized the importance of consistently repeating this mantra to myself and being aware of my self-talk. She also guided me through some visualization exercises to help reinforce this new belief. Personally, I felt a sense of inner peace after the session, but as the expert advised, “rehearsal makes success.”

Rewiring Your Brain for Lasting Change

Even though this new, empowering belief now resides in my subconscious, I understand the importance of continually reminding myself of it and talking to myself in this supportive manner. The expert stressed that this repetition and conscious self-talk is crucial for the belief to truly take root and transform my mindset.

You see, our brains possess an incredible ability called neuroplasticity – the capacity to form new neural connections and pathways. By consistently reinforcing this positive belief, I’m able to strengthen the associated neural networks, allowing me to replace the old, limiting beliefs that have been holding me back. This process of rewiring my brain is essential for achieving lasting personal transformation.

In fact, I’ve been exploring the work of Dr. Joe Dispenza and his meditations, which leverage the principles of neuroplasticity. His team has conducted rigorous studies validating how these practices can stimulate the formation of new neural pathways. Through his guided meditations, I’m actively working to strengthen the neural networks associated with my desired beliefs and mindset.

You can explore his books, which are fully documented with scientific research and evidence to support his findings and statements. This insightful book, “EVOLVE your BRAIN – The Science of Changing Your Mind,” offers a thorough, science-based exploration of neuroplasticity and the formation of new neural pathways, among other transformative concepts.

However, I want to be transparent that I’m still very much in the beginning stages of this practice. I haven’t yet fully reaped the transformative benefits, as it requires consistent, long-term commitment. Rewiring deeply ingrained beliefs and neural patterns takes time and dedication. But I’m committed to seeing it through, because I believe the potential for personal growth and positive change is immense. I will update you on my progress in future blog posts.

Conclusion: Embracing the Path Forward

And this is my health and personal journey I wanted to share with you. I think one of the keys is deeply examining what is creating your mental health struggles, and then setting an intention that helps you overwrite those old, faulty beliefs and create new, empowering ones. You can use different techniques to introduce these new beliefs into your subconscious, but I believe repetition is key, coupled with the use of high, positive emotions related to that intention. Employing powerful methods to overwrite the subconscious programs that are no longer serving you, and replacing them with new, supportive ones – that is the path forward.

In summary, I would say: “Be aware of how you talk to yourself, think the way you want to be, and deeply feel it.”

So, let me ask you one last time – how do you talk to yourself?
